Beginners Group gets off to a flying start!
*~*~*~*~*
Abergele Harriers Beginners Group got off to a flying start on Wednesday night when 61 people turned up for the free ten week course. The free ten week course, at the end of which time, all “Beginners” should be able to run 30 minutes without stopping, started off with a very simple but enjoyable run /walk program around Pentre Mawr Park. Fourteen Harriers helped out on the night, twelve of whom had recently gained qualifications from Welsh Athletics to lead out the group. Welsh Athletics had recently specifically organized a course for the Club to help establish this new group, and thanks to a Community Chest grant of £590 which partially funded the course, twelve Harriers became qualified and insured. The club are expecting several new members to attend next week, and anyone interested in attending can simply turn up to Abergele Leisure Centre between 6.30 and 6.45 on Wednesday night. The aim of the group is simple to introduce people to running, whether it be for fitness, weight loss or general health improvement, and to show people how much fun running can be. No previous running experience is needed and it doesn’t matter how “unfit” people feel they are, they will enjoy the free ten week course. A spokesman for the club said “it was one of the best days in the history of the club to see so many people out enjoying themselves and learning to enjoy running”. For further details ring Sean on 07774948596 or e-mail Sean@Abergeleharriers.co.uk.

*~*~*~*~*
Club Secreatary Sean McCormack has been selected for the Welsh 24h team to take part in the Commonwealth Mountain and Ultra Distance Championships to take place in North Wales at the end of September. Sean's selection came as a result of his personal best performance, leading the Welsh home in the Anglo-Celtic Plate in Perth at the end of March. The 24h race will be taking place around a very short loop in Llandudno and Sean hopes that home advantage, and hopefully home support from the Harriers, will give him the edge on the day/night. EGM
*~*~*~*~*
An Extraordinary General Meeting has been called for Sunday 22nd August 2010, at 6.55pm in the Community House, Cheshire Avenue, Kinmel Bay to consider the following proposal;
It is proposed to remove section 5 b) from the constitution with no replacement.
Section 5 b) reads;
“All club and committee positions can only be held for a maximum of 3 (three) years, and not retaken up by the same person for a minimum of a further 2(two) years. If there is nobody willing to take up a position an EGM must be called.”
The Committee have recommended acceptance of this proposal, as it would mean that members could stay on longer than three years in a position if it was felt to be in the club’s best interest and if the person in the position was willing to continue and if they were to win any vote if another member went up against them.
