Round 1 Borders League

A team of eleven men travelled to Christleton for the opening fixture of the Borders Road Running League. Borders League Captain, Darren Blazier lead home a procession of three Harriers to finish 5^th overall in a fantastic time of 33mins 3secs. Just behind, Sean McCormack and Josh Dixon renewed their rivalry from the previous day with the positions reversing on this occasion. McCormack clocked a 33mins 11secs for 6^th position, his first ever top ten League finish, and for the second time in two days, in two different running disciplines, was first V45 overall. Dixon, who had picked up a slight injury the previous day, was just 17secs further back for 7^th overall, but with the consolation of finishing first Under 20 on the day. Tim Cahill was another Harrier to gain his highest ever finish; completing the tough course in 34mins 36secs for 14^th position overall, and 3^rd V45 on the day. Steven McCormack followed up Saturday’s strong performance with another excellent run, finishing in 48^th position. Grahame Shone and Keith Elliott had a superb battle with less than a second separating them after the 9.5 kilometres, both finishing in 41 minutes exactly for 133^rd and 134^th positions respectively. Ed Reid, one of many Harriers at present just coming back from injury, ran a very spirited race to finish in 146^th position, while Alan Lucas, ran outstandingly well for the second time in two days to finish 216^th. Borders League ever present John Essary, was as reliable as ever, finishing in 50mins 39secs for 255^th position, while Stevie Ward, using the two successive days racing as training for the upcoming Dublin Marathon, finished in an excellent 275^th position. Thanks also to John Earlston, injured at present, but travelled to the fixture to help out and support.
