Grand Prix Express North Wales

 Cross Country League.

Round 4, Wrexham, 17/1/2009.

Fourteen Abergele Harriers, twelve man and two women, travelled to Wrexham for the penultimate race of the Grand Prix Express Cross Country League in Wrexham on Saturday. The men secured an excellent result, by far their best of the season, helping them to secure definite safety in the first division, while the two women also scored well. In the ladies race Sue Calvert ran superbly throughout finishing in a fantastic 64^th position overall with Sonia Wignall also having an excellent run to finish in a very respectable 72^nd overall.

In the men’s race Tim Cahill produced his best cross country performance for many years to finish in 33mins 37secs for a personal best 22^nd League position. Dewi Roberts also ran extremely well to finish in 28^th position, pushed all the way by Sean McCormack in 31^st and Gareth Roberts in 34^th. Neil Brambles made his League debut for the club producing the performance of the day finishing in an outstanding 42^nd position, while Steven McCormack ran a very impressive race to finish in 64^th. Grahame Shone continued his recent excellent form finishing in 38mins 17secs for 92^nd, just ahead of Keith Elliott in 38mins 54secs for 103^rd. Ed Reid, who had just flown home from holiday the previous night, overcame the jetlag finishing in a tremendous 122^nd position. Dave Edwards, who like Elliott is deep into his London Marathon training, also ran very well finishing in 134^th, while Rob Spotswood and Alan Lucas ran a very close race finishing in just over 44 minutes for 142^nd and 143^rd positions respectively. The men’s score of 221 points was by far their best this season and in fact the club’s fourth best ever League score.
