Round 2 Borders League
Hoylake, 9/11/2008

A team of fourteen men and two women from Abergele Harriers travelled to Hoylake for the second round of the Borders Road Running League which was run in horrendous conditions on Sunday. The men’s team went from last first division team in the first race to winners of this race to take themselves well out of the relegation zone, and also won the veterans race on the day. The ladies also managed to move off the bottom of the second division thanks to Angie Hughes and Jenny Richards who once again ran superbly together, with Hughes just coming out on top on this occasion finishing in 45mins 53secs and 45mins 57secs respectively.

Josh Dixon lead the men home in 9th position overall, running a superbly calculated race, to finish in an excellent time of 33mins 33secs. Darren Blazier was 14th in 34mins 7secs, just managing to once again hold off Sean McCormack four seconds and two positions further back, but with the consolation of once again winning the MV45 category on the day. Tim Cahill, also running very well at present, was second MV45, finishing in an excellent 34mins 41secs for 20th position overall. Dewi Roberts, preparing for next weeks Preston 10, ran an great race, finishing in 35mins 28secs for 30th, with Gareth Roberts clocking 35mins 58secs for 43rd. Steven McCormack was one of only a hand full of runners in the race to improve their time from race one, finishing in 36mins 30secs for 53rd. Matthew Ashton, running his first race for some time, clocked a very good 37mins 11secs, while Club Captain Geran Hughes, made his first steps back from injury with a impressive 37mins 22secs for 67th. Tenth man home on the day was Keith Elliott in 41mins 7secs for 116th position, while Dave Edwards, less than two weeks after completing the Dublin Marathon, managed a tremendous 44mins 3secs. Alan Lucas finished in 188th in a superb time of 47mins 24secs, while Borders League ever-present John Essary was 197th in 49mins 9secs. The team was completed by a very steady run by Steve Ward finishing in 53mins 13secs for 205th.
