Round 7 Borders League
Deeside, 30/4/2010

Abergele Harriers ladies took centre stage at the final round of the Borders Road Running League in Deeside on Wednesday, winning the Ladies Second Division, gaining promotion to the top flight and winning the Ladies Improvers trophy, as well as three individual prizes, making them the most successful Ladies team in the history of the club. First home on the night was Jeni Richards in 159th position overall, and in the process won the 2nd prize for the season in the FV45 Category. Just one position further back on the night was Carol Willgoose in a time, a position good enough to insure that she became the FV50 Champion for the season, while Sian Hall had another great race finishing in 188th position on the night thus securing 3rd position overall in the FV35 Category in her first full season of racing. Christine Birch made her debut for the club and finished in a magnificent 196th overall in a time of to complete a fantastic night for the women, who can now look forward to a life in the First Division next season.

Unfortunately the men’s team were already relegated to the second division before the night and only managed to field a team of eight. They were however lead home in style by Mark Mayers who had a tremendous run, coming home in 102nd with Ed Reid not far behind him in 115th. Mike Carrighan continued his excellent form finishing in 142nd with Anthony Howe completing his second race for the club in a fabulous time 180thposition. Anthony was followed very closely by Andy Goodson, who ran his usual excellent race finishing 187th.  Alan Lucas just three days after completing the London Marathon still ran magnificently well to finish in 211th position, while John Essary completed his eighth full season of Borders League races by finishing 228th. The team was completed by Jonathan Perry who had an excellent race finishing in 229th, while Club Captain Darren Blazier, although injured at present, still turned up on the night to add his support to all.
