Majestic Travel Cross Country League.
Round 1; Colwyn Bay, 1/10/2005.
History was made for the club on Saturday with the club being represented for the first time by a ladies team in the Majestic Travel North Wales Cross-Country League, and the men’s team having their biggest turn out ever (10). Most of the highlights of the day came in the ladies race with Hilary Jaques producing an outstanding performance to come home in 21st position overall. Debbie Clift also ran superbly finishing in an excellent 37th, with Angie Davidson not far behind with an equally impressive 47th. Allison Guillemin, running her first ever cross-country race, proved her versatility with a fabulous 61st position, while one of the clubs newest members, Julie Jones, was running her first ever race of any distance, acquitting herself very well with an extremely creditable 73rd overall. In the men’s race the strength in depth of the team was rewarded with the clubs best ever score of 363 points. First home was Sean McCormack in 35mins 12secs for 25th position, pushed all the way by the inform Geran Hughes who finished just four seconds and one position further back. Richie Lee, still recovering from his recent triathlons, was next in 37mins 42secs (63rd), with Grahame Shone producing a superb run finishing in 38mins 24secs for 70th. Ed Reid was next in 39:23 (88th), with Rob Spotswood hot on his heels just sixteen seconds and three positions behind. Mike Hobday, running his first cross-country race for the club was next in 40mins 9secs (97th) with Chris Arnold, who unfortunately was running his last race for the club before he emigrates to New Zealand, just behind in 40mins 12secs (98th). Roy Evans, who lead the race in its early stages, finished 41mins 15secs for 106th, with John Humphries completing a superb team performance in a time of 42mins 42secs, just one week after completing the Anglesey Marathon.
