Majestic Travel Cross Country League.

Round 4; Bangor, 31/1/2004 .

Seven Abergele Harriers bravely competed in horrendous conditions in the penultimate round of the Majestic Travel North Wales Cross Country League in Bangor on Saturday. Over a very testing three and a half lap course, consisting entirely of mud and water, and in the spilling rain, Simon Shiels was first Harrier home in 34 minutes 55 seconds to gain 5th position overall. Next home was Sean Mc Cormack in 38mins 43secs for 27th position, pushed all the way by back to form Richie Lee, who ran an inspired race, finishing just 2 seconds behind Sean in 28th place. Next home was Ed Reid in 58th position in 41mins 51secs, again pushed all the way by a team-mate, this time Grahame Shone just 10 seconds behind and in 60th position. Mike Nolan also performed excellently finishing in 49mins 26secs (91st), recovering very well after a fall in the mud on the first lap, while Alan Lucas braved the conditions, despite injury, to finish very strongly in 53minutes 21seconds for 101st position. The overall team score of 267 was their best ever in the league, and with just one race left, in Oswestry in 2 weeks time, they look like securing a very solid mid table position.
