Majestic Travel Cross Country League.

Round 3; Wrexham , 9/11/2003 .

Just one week after completing the grand slam of North Wales road race titles, Abergele Harrier’s Simon Shiels proved his versatility by winning the Wrexham round of the Majestic Travel North Wales Cross Country League. An added bonus for Simon was the fact that, despite having run in the cross country league for over 20 years, and with over 30 second place positions to his name, he had never before won a cross country league race. Over a fast four lap, 9K course Simon led from start to finish and by the time second placed runner Wrexham’s Luke Northall slipped up on the last lap, Simon was already well ahead, finishing in an excellent time of 29mins 10secs. Second Harrier on the day was Sean Mc Cormack, finishing in 33mins 14secs, earning 27th position, his highest position to date. Next home, in his first cross country run for the club, was Richie Lee in an excellent 33mins 54secs and 37th position. Fourth home was the ever reliable Grahame Shone in 35mins 59secs for 71st position with Alan Lucas next in an equally impressive 42mins 21secs (117th). Unfortunately, for the second round in succession, Abergele again only managed to field 5 runners resulting in the team being penalised 150 points for not having a complete team of 6.
