Grand Prix Express North Wales
Cross Country League.
Round 3; Bangor, 21/11/2009.
“Didn’t we have a lovely run, the day we ran in Bangor" – or so the song goes. Ten Abergele Harriers travelled to the Grand Prix Express North Wales Cross Country League in Bangor - the third round of the competition. It was wet, windy and muddy but it did not prevent some outstanding performances or dampen any enthusiasm.
The ladies fielded a team of 4. The team was led home by Angie Hughes in a time of 25mins 59secs for 40th position pursued by the usual crusade between herself and Jenni Richards, in 42nd position, both tackling the muddy conditions creditably. Jenni should be pleased with the result since she has been selected for the Cross Country Inter Regional to be held on the 13th December in Builth Wells. Sian Hall ran well coming in 3rd for the club and 57th position overall with Sue Calvert slipping in literally in 4th and 72nd position for the club completing the ladies line up.
After the ladies had muddied the field further it was the men’s turn. Geran Hughes, who enjoys these conditions, led the men home in 19th position overall and in a time of 30.58. He was followed in by Matthew Ashton, in 53rd position and a time of 32.52, proving that triathlon training really helps. Ed Reid who on this occasion managed to keep onto his footwear finished in 121st position with a time of 38.21. Andy Goodson ran a steady race coming home in 140th position with a time of 41.25. Robert Spotswood ran consistently coming home in 144th position with a time of 41.48, while Alan Lucas completed the excellent male team performance in 151st position and a time of 46.41.
Keith Elliott once again turned up to support the team efforts despite not being able to run which is much appreciated. Thanks also goes to Jaime Ashton who also supported the team.
Full results will be placed on the noticed board.
