Round 3 Borders League

Three Welsh cross-country gold medal winners from the previous day, the two McCormacks and Josh Dixon were among the thirteen Harriers who travelled to Mold for the third round of the Borders Road Running League on Sunday. Josh showed amazing recovery by finishing a fantastic 4^th overall and second Under 20 in a superb time of 27mins 3secs over the difficult five mile course. Not far behind, in eight position overall, was Darren Blazier with an excellent 27mins 27secs, followed by the two McCormacks, Sean finishing 20^th (2^nd V45) in 28mins 46secs, and Steven 48^th in 30mins 28secs, both also having recovered well from the previous day’s exploits. Keith Elliott produced another highlight for the day, not only running a personal best time for the distance, his second P.B in successive weeks, but also getting his best ever league finishing position, 87^th, in a time of 32mins 59secs. Grahame Shone proved he is right back to form finishing in 33mins 28secs for 102^nd, just ahead of Ed Reid in 117^th (33mins 46secs). There then followed three Harriers making their League debuts for the club, all scoring very well for the team and contributing very well to a steady team performance; Vernon Pownall in 34mins 55secs (124^th), Mark Mayers 35mins 43secs (141^st) and Peter Hardy 36mins 40secs (147^th). Alan Lucas, again had a great run clocking exactly 39 minutes for 160^th, while John Essary making his 50^th successive Borders League appearance celebrated the occasion with a fabulous time of 41mins 5secs for 173^rd. Stevie Ward completed a magnificent team performance keeping the club well out of the relegation zone in the top division. Unfortunately, once again no ladies turned out on this occasion leaving the ladies team firmly stuck to the bottom of the second division.
